Cornell Engineers is based in Queensland and provides selected structural engineering services across Queensland and New South Wales. We are currently focusing on structural inspections, forensic reporting, damage assessments, cracking and movement investigations, overland flow and site drainage assessments, insurance-related reports, builder support and practical structural engineering advice.

We are currently prioritising work where our experience, judgement and reporting skills provide the most value. This includes structural inspections, written engineering reports, cracking and movement assessments, overland flow and site drainage assessments, stormwater-related movement, fire, flood, storm, hail or water damage assessments, insurance claim reports, builder support and selected higher-value structural engineering work.
For the right forensic, reporting, insurance, damage or expert structural advice matter, we can consider work across Queensland and New South Wales, including Brisbane, South East Queensland, regional Queensland, northern New South Wales and broader NSW locations.
We are still happy to review design enquiries, but design work is currently limited. We may not be able to assist with every small residential design job, urgent alteration, retaining wall, minor carport, pergola, deck, or retrospective certification request. If we are not the right fit, we may be able to suggest another type of consultant or direction.

Are We Licensed Structural Engineers?
Yes. Matt Cornell, the director and owner of Cornell Engineers, is a Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ).
When you contact Cornell Engineers, you are contacting a structural engineering firm with decades of practical experience in inspections, reports, design, damage assessment, movement investigation, overland flow assessment, site drainage assessment and structural advice.
For work outside Queensland, including New South Wales matters, we will consider the nature of the advice required, the location, inspection requirements and any registration or compliance requirements before confirming whether we can assist.
What We Are Best Set Up to Help With
At the moment, Cornell Engineers is best set up to assist with selected structural engineering work, especially where a clear inspection, report, assessment or practical engineering opinion is required.

Design Work Is Currently Limited
We are currently taking on structural design work only where the scope is clear, the required information is available, the timing is realistic and the job fits our current capacity.
We may not be able to assist with every small residential alteration, minor deck, pergola, carport, retaining wall, retrospective certification request or urgent design enquiry. Where possible, we will let you know early so you can make other arrangements.
This helps us give proper attention to the work we do accept, rather than taking on more than we can service properly.
Not Ready to Engage a Structural Engineer?
That is fine if you are not ready to get a quote just yet.
Many people are not sure whether they need a structural engineer, builder, certifier, geotechnical engineer, civil engineer, building consultant or another specialist. That is completely normal.
