Hi, I’m Matthew Cornell – most people just call me Matt – and I’m the director and owner of Cornell Engineers.
I’m a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ 06598) and I’ve been working as a structural engineer for 30 years. Where did that time go? Our office is at 1/26 Navigator Place, Hendra, which we share with the friendly team at Statewide Conveyancing Brisbane.
What I Do Best
Residential construction is my passion. I work with clients across Brisbane, Mackay, and throughout Queensland – and yes, we also take on projects in New South Wales, from the Queensland border to Wagga Wagga!
I specialise in:

- Guiding projects from design to documentation to construction with minimal fuss.

Every day I get to work with fantastic clients and a top-notch team. Queensland has some of the most beautiful places in the country – from our beaches to our neighbourhoods – and I’m proud to help create and repair the homes that make it special.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from James Cook University in 1992, I’ve worked in Mackay, Townsville, Emerald, Gladstone, and Brisbane.
The Value of a Great Team
For 14 years, I was an auxiliary firefighter with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES), serving in Emerald, Gladstone, and Walkerston. I retired in 2013 at the rank of Lieutenant.
In that role, I attended house fires, grass fires, road accidents, and chemical incidents. I’ve been there in people’s toughest moments, and I’ve learned that a great team can make all the difference. That’s the same approach I bring to Cornell Engineers – supporting you through your project from start to finish.
